10 things that are a “must have”

If someone were to claim that archery is not a gear sport, we would likely have to disagree. In our world, there are countless more or less essential items, and we’re always looking for new and better things.

Our bow cases often overflow with more or less useful items. Everything from pure survival gear to food, furniture, tools, and spare parts. A few archers only bring their protection gear, quiver, bow, and arrows when heading out, at best, and often have to ask for help from others. Meeting in the middle would probably be the ideal. That’s why we’re starting with a list of 10 things that can be invaluable. Of course, there are more items to choose from, but we’ve selected these:

  • Hoof scraper. This tool from equestrian sports is invaluable for us archers as well. It works extremely well for searching for arrows in nature. A must for every serious outdoor archer.
  • Loctite. Aside from longbows and traditional recurves made in one piece, nearly all other bows have small screws that tend to loosen when you least expect or want it. A few drops of Loctite on your screw will keep it in place. It’s also no problem to remove it when you want with a little force. Be sure to use the type that can be loosened, usually labeled “Threadlocker/Normal.”
  • Multi-tool. No matter which brand you choose, such as Leatherman or Victorinox, a multi-tool is sometimes completely invaluable. From pulling out nocks to repairing arrows.
  • Hand sanitizer. A small container or spray bottle of hand sanitizer is a must for anyone around others today.
  • Hot glue. A hot glue stick can save you in many ways. Sometimes your nocking points come loose, and you need to thread new string through some glue, or you might need to set a new tip that got stuck in a target.
  • Nocking point thread. Great for nocking points or temporary fixes. It can also help you tie anything that’s not where it should be.
  • Leukoplast. Extremely durable and effective tape to prevent chafing from the string or feathers. Also perfect for testing out new nocking points.
  • Allen key set. Self-explanatory.
  • Storm lighter. A good storm lighter is useful for many things, like lighting a grill or campfire, but also for heating up hot glue or burning off string ends.
  • String wax. Perhaps obvious, but an accessory that’s often forgotten at home.
