We no longer need to remind you that these are challenging times, but instead, we can give you a nice tip on what you can do at home.
Autumn, viruses, colds, and canceled practices. Sometimes, you just need to disconnect from reality and sink into the sofa in front of a nice movie or series. There are actually plenty of movies and series with an archery theme. With the help of our longbow archer Jonas Hellsén, we’ve borrowed his IMDb list of archery-related films and TV series. The titles are sorted chronologically, with the latest film first. There is also a link to click for anyone who wants to read more.
Editor’s 3 picks:
Movie title: Robin Hood (2018)
Reason: This highly criticized film, in my opinion, has received far too much unnecessary criticism. It has become trendy to dislike it. But it’s really not that bad at all. It is beautifully shot, and the choice to completely deviate from the classic era to a more steampunk-inspired version actually feels fresh. Give it a chance and watch it without pre-programmed expectations of what a Robin Hood film must be. This is something else. Not classic, but stylish and above all, entertaining. Movie title: War of the Arrows
Reason: A relatively unknown gem that I have to throw in among my recommendations. Here we’re talking about trick shooting. Curved arrows and impossible shots are plentiful. It’s like the “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” of the archery world. A beautiful and well-made film that has not received enough attention. [IMDb]tt2025526[/IMDb]
Movie title: The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938)
Reason: Making an archery recommendation without choosing this one is just plain wrong. Many of us would claim that the phrase “to do a Robin Hood” originates from this film. (Some would, however, point to older stories). Although the film is from 1938, it is still quite enjoyable even by modern standards. You get sucked into the story relatively quickly, and the fact that it is usually released in restored versions makes it easier to watch. This is a MUST-watch for anyone who likes archery at least once. [IMDb]tt0029843[/IMDb]
